I know you guys see wish lists on tumblr all the time and roll your eyes or whatever. But everyday since the first day of school, I’ve had students asking me if I’ve got any new books. These students have devoured everything I own; one of them spent the end-of-school dance last year reading a John Green novel.
Kids need books. My students don’t have access to a public library and the school library is mostly filled with novels from the 80s. They read what I can give them. If you can help, they’ll read what you can give them.
This amazing young woman is an inspirational teacher, who cares deeply for her students who live in the toughest environment.
This time next week, I’ll be taking my son to Uni in Cornwall, and I’m going to miss him so much. He’s kind of quiet, but cool too, funny and kind. He’s a home-bird so is always around - and even though he may not be sat with us watching TV every night, the low hum of his favourite metal band, or the sound of him chatting online is what I’ll miss when I pass his room. It’s hard to imagine him being so far away - it’s gonna be a tough week.
